MCHS Culinary Students win 2nd Overall in State Competition

Martin County High School students in the Academy of Culinary Arts secured 2nd Overall in the Florida ProStart Culinary Team Competition from March 1-2, 2024.

Students competed against 42 other ProStart programs from around the state in a variety of culinary and hospitality-related categories. In addition to winning 2nd Overall, several students were recognized for their individual and team accomplishments:

  • Hospitality Excellence Award: Victoria Garcia
  • 3rd Place Culinary Team: Michael Decesare, Zach Walker, Kalla Caves, Sarah Duda, Isabella Quevedo
  • 3rd Place Restaurant Management Team: Victoria Garcia, Rosemary Hernandez, Sienna Hartley, Jennifer Lopez
  • 2nd Place Edible Centerpiece: Bryar Stoney (received a $5,000 scholarship from Keiser University)
  • Top 8 Finish in Waiter’s Relay: Taylor Koon, Costantino Padovano, Davis Scott
  • $2,000 Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association Scholarships: Michael Decesare, Jennifer Lopez, and Tishaly Acosta Ramos

 All members of both the MCHS Culinary and Management teams received scholarships from: The Culinary Institute of America, Johnson & Wales University, Nicholls State University, Culinary Institute of Virginia, Keiser University, Rosen School of Hospitality at the University of Central Florida and the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Florida International University.
