2024 CONSTITUTIONAL DEBATE

On Friday, February 26, teams representing Martin County High School and South Fork High School debated the merits of the Supreme Court Case Mahonoy Area School District vs B.L.

SFHS students Ameera Mehan and Savannah Kautz were arguing against the Supreme Court decision while MCHS students Nira Goyal and Nina Goyal argued in favor of the decision.

The students argued their positions at the YMCA of the Treasure Coast before presiding 19th Judicial Circuit Court judges the Honorable Kathleen Roberts, the Honorable Jennifer Alcorta Waters and Fourth District Court of Appeal Judge Alan Forst.

Teams began with a five-minute opening statement followed by ten minutes of questions from the judges, before ending their argument with a five-minute closing statement.

After much debate on the judges’ behalf, Nira and Nina Goyal were declared the competition winners.

Both teams will be awarded scholarships for use at their chosen colleges/universities.
